Teaching is a noble profession. For this reason, a person must have a license before they can begin teaching. But how can you obtain this license? By passing the Licensure for Teachers (LET) exam.

To pass this exam, you need the skill, determination, and these useful tips from a LET passer!

    Know yourself
One thing that most examinees assume is that there is just one way of learning things. But, the truth is there are at least one million ways to do it. You just have to know what approach works for you! So, before you start reviewing for the LET exam, know the study approach that works for you. When you finally become a teacher, this skill will prove useful in the classroom.

    Know the exam
You may think it’s okay not to know the exam contents; you’ll be missing a huge opportunity if you don’t. Knowing the exam coverage gives you an edge in devising a strategy in the exam-taking.

There are two levels of the LET exam: elementary level and secondary level. In the elementary level, the exam has 40% of the topics from General Education and 60% from Professional Education. In the secondary level, the exam is divided to 20% General Education, 40% Professional Education, and 40% in specialization areas.

Here is a list of some topics in each area:

    • General Education
    • English
    • Filipino
    • Mathematics
    • Social Sciences
    • Science
    • Professional Education
    • Social Dimensions of Education
    • Practice Teaching
    • Child and Adolescent Development
    • Specialization Areas
    • Values Education
    • MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, Health)
    • Agriculture and Fishery Arts
    • Technology and Livelihood Education

    Create a study routine
When you have identified the right approach to your self-review, put it into action!

Devise a study plan the following months before the LET exam. This not only includes making a timetable for the subjects that you will study for each day but also be searching for the review materials. Look for your trusty notes and textbooks from your college days or borrow from your friends or family.  Devote some time in making other teaching materials for your self-study approach.

For your study plan, make a daily routine. Following a daily routine helps you avoid procrastination and cramming in the final days. This daily routine should have the same time for each day to avoid confusion.

    Stay positive
If you think that studying is the most important aspect of the review, then you are mistaken. Positive reinforcement is also crucial in helping you pass the LET exam.

It is easy for many examinees to worry about the exam and question their abilities. When this happens to you, stop, breathe, and ask yourself why you feel this way. Reflecting on your feelings will help you identify the root of the problem so that you can address it.

A LET exam passer shares that visualizing your goals and motivation helps in those kinds of situation. Looking the review as another fun exercise may also help ease the situation. But, if these tips don’t help, treating yourself won’t hurt! After all, you have been studying for so long; it is time to relax!
